Pastoral Care

Charaties Committee

  • The school aims to take good care of its students and appreciates the support of parents. A newsletter is posted to parents twice a term.
  • The Principal is available to meet parents. Appointments may be made with her Secretary who can also make arrangements for parents wishing to speak to teachers.
  • The Guidance Counsellors are available both to the students and to parents.
  • The Careers and Transition Teacher is also available both to the students and to parents, especially of seniors.
  • Form teachers usually take their form class for one subject as well as formtime so she or he sees the students in the form regularly.  Form teachers write a general report comment. The form teacher and the Dean work together to ensure students make progress in their studies and attend regularly. Formtimes can also provide an opportunity for informal and open discussion of issues with students.
  • Deans supervise progress and attendance to ensure students are happily involved.  Deans contact parents if there is a concern and are available for interviews.
  • All teachers are available to meet parents at evening sessions in Term 2 to review their daughters’ progress.
  • The office staff supervise the sickbay and ring parents if students who are unwell need to go home. Students must not contact their parents directly to collect them.  Every student is provided with a Student Handbook which sets out attendance and other procedures including the timetable and school rules.  Form teachers ensure that all students understand what is expected of them.  Copies of the Handbook are available to parents if requested.
  • In Years 9 and 10 we place students in form class groups according to their educational needs. This means that students are not necessarily with the same grouping of students in Year 9 and 10. This is often caused by the need to create form classes at both levels which allow all students to be given their option choices.
  • The Whānau group meets once a term to discuss educational and cultural matters pertaining to Māori. All those who are interested are encouraged to attend these meetings and contribute.
