Location 85 Papanui Road - twenty minutes walk to school. Size Places for approximately 90 boarders from Year 9 to 13 whose place of residence is outside Christchurch. Short-term boarding of day girls is occasionally possible. Management The Board of Trustees of Christchurch Girls' High School administers the hostel. The Principal is responsible for its supervision. A Hostel Manager is appointed for day-to-day management of the hostel.

Leave Arrangements The hostel is open each weekend in the school year except on public holiday weekends. Boarders make their leave arrangements on an individual basis. Music Piano tuition is available locally. Pianos are available for practice. Sport Boarders are encouraged to participate in school and other teams. Fees For 2009 the fee is $2350.00 per term inclusive of GST. Applications for 2010 are now closed. Interviews were held mid May - mid June. All applicants have been advised.
Travel Assistance Pupils receiving a government boarding bursary are also eligible for travel assistance. The cost of travel at the beginning and end of each term in excess of $10.00 will be refunded. The amount is based on public transport fares where this travel is available. Fees Fees are payable at the commencement of each term on receipt of an account. Termination of place at the hostel One terms' notice in writing must be given to the Principal if a student is leaving the hostel. Year 12 students must all notify the hostel in Sept/Oct of their intention for the following year. Boarding Bursary The Board recognises eligibility for a Boarding Bursary as a criterion for admission. Ministry of Education Allowances and Bursaries: Boarding Bursary (Year 9 - 13) A school boarding bursary is awarded to secondary school students who are obliged to board away from home in order to receive their education. In order to qualify, the student must live more than 4.8km away from the nearest point of embarkation provided by a transport service to a state school. The bursary is valued at $2725 per annum. Application Form E6/81 is obtainable from the Principal's Secretary. Secondary School Bursary (Years 12 and 13) Senior students who wish to study a course not offered by local high schools and who are obliged to live away from home, may receive a bursary of $1990 per annum. Where students are pursuing a course containing subjects at both Year 12 and Year 13 levels, a secondary school bursary will be awarded only if the student is taking at least four subjects at one level i.e. four nationally approved NCEA Level 2 or 3 subjects. Note: in recent years the Ministry has approved applications only where students are taking at least two subjects not available at the local school. Application forms are available from the Principal's Secretary and must be submitted to the Ministry of Education by 31 March of the year to which the application relates. |
