Learning Support

Welcome
Learning Support is part of Student Support. Our aim is to develop young people who will be confident, connected, actively involved lifelong learners. We do this through identifying areas of weakness and addressing these areas through both curriculum support and individualized programmes delivered to small groups of students. Our primary focus is in the learning areas of English and Mathematics.

Our Learning Support staff, led by co-ordinator, Toni Jones, has four part-time teachers, Stephanie Paris, Carola Crawford, Paula Green and Colleen Mackechnie. They are highly qualified teachers who have extra training in teaching students with diverse needs. Our main focus is on quality teaching and learning so that each student will be supported to achieve personal excellence in learning.

We achieve this through:

  • Enabling students to view themselves as successful learners
  • Enabling students to feel comfortable learning – so that they can then apply their learning skills to the classroom.
  • Encouraging students to develop individual strategies to approach learning
  • Prioritising the support of Year 9 and 10 students in foundation learning skills
  • Being holistic in our approach - as a part of the pastoral care system and the wider school community
