About Christchurch Girls’ High School

Christchurch Girls' High School is one of the top single-sex high schools in New Zealand. Established in 1877 the school is based on a long tradition of high standards and excellence.

Christchurch Girls' High School is a decile 9 school with on average 90% of the students achieving the necessary grades for university entrance.

The school supports a very active extra-curricular programme including an extensive number of sports ranging from the more traditional such as netball and tennis to rock climbing and skateboarding. CGHS is also very proud of their school orchestra, one of the largest in New Zealand. The girls’ cultural interests are well catered for - drama, dance, debating and an active international club are some of the cultural activities on offer.

Situated on the banks of the Avon River and bordering Hagley Park the school has a particularly attractive location. Facilities are modern and include a swimming pool, dance studio, technology suite and auditorium.
